This custom system designed and built by Liburdi Automation, in partnership with AECL, will perform weld repairs and inspections on the NRU reactor vessel wall in Chalk River, Ontario.
First set of welding tools were delivered to AECL and installed in a full height mock-up at Chalk River's NRU facility. The NRU mock-up allows the repair team to simulate geometrical constraints of the NRU vessel. Welders are using Liburdi's Gold Track VP power sources in conjunction with our innovative FireView™ remote welding systems for training and actual repairs at the bottom of the reactor, 9 meters deep.
Once simulation training and qualification are complete, the welding tools will be disassembled and moved to the NRU reactor facility in preparation for in-vessel repair and inspection.
