Liburdi Welding Technologies for Superalloy Components
Specialized welding processes are required for welding high strength alloys. Many of the alloys used in modern advanced engines require the use of Automated Welding processes to successfully weld blades and vanes. Through the precision control of Automated Welding Systems engineers are able to use the latest welding technologies, Laser and Micro Plasma, to successfully weld what were previously considered to be un-weldable alloys.
High strength alloys that are now weldable using automated systems include the Single Crystal and Directionally Solidified castings that are used in the latest aero-derivative and F class components.
The automated systems also enable specialized weld filler metals to be applied to the component. Matching high strength weld metal may be used in the weld, or alternatively weld metals that have more superior oxidation resistance. This allows the repair engineer to select the most appropriate weld alloy knowing that the automated system can produce a reliable weld.
Liburdi uses the LAWS welding systems manufactured by Liburdi Automation Inc for advanced repairs in our repair shop. The LAWS are the system of choice for repair and overhaul shops around the world – over 160 systems installed at all major OEMs and Independent aircraft engine service centres. These same systems that are programmed by Liburdi engineers to perform turnkey FAA approved weld on aircraft parts, are used by Liburdi Turbine Services Inc for industrial turbine repairs.
